MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) – Xalt Energy, an electric battery plant in Midland, is closing over the next few months and eliminating 230 jobs.
Freudenberg E-Power Systems, the company that owns the facility at 2700 S. Saginaw Road, confirmed the closure. Freudenberg said the layoffs will occur over a period of several months as it winds down the business.
Freudenberg blamed the closure of Xalt Energy partially on a decrease in demand for heavy duty electric and hybrid electric vehicles in North America.
Xalt Energy also is closing a facility in Auburn Hills with nearly 100 other jobs.
