As the weather grows colder and holidays approach, the city of Englewood is helping families prepare for a festive dinner with their annual Turkey Fest.
On Nov. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Englewood families will have the chance to pick up free Thanksgiving fixings during Turkey Fest at the Englewood Civic Center. Each take-home meal kit will include a frozen turkey, as well as packaged side dishes.
According to Englewood Director of Communications Chris Harguth, the event is meant to ensure that families in need have access to a complete, traditional Thanksgiving meal to help celebrate the holiday.
The city partners with Excalibur Outreach to sponsor the annual Turkey Fest, which gave out over 100 turkey dinners last year, according to Harguth. Once families pick up their meal kits, they can stick around for yard games, children’s craft kits and other fall festivities — which Harguth added will help to foster community and provide an engaging fall activity for attendees.
“Turkey Fest reflects what Englewood is all about: neighbors coming together to support one another,” Harguth said. “It’s more than handing out meal kits. It’s about creating a warm, welcoming space where families feel cared for and connected during the holidays.”
Families who are interested in picking up a meal kit must register to receive one. Registration begins Nov. 7, and can be found on the city’s website at http://www.englewoodco.gov/turkeyfest.
