21st October 2025

Mr. President,

I thank Deputy SRSG Milbert Dongjoon Shin for his briefing. I take this opportunity to commend the former SRSG Caroline Ziadeh for her services to UNMIK.

  1. I welcome FM Marko Djuric of Serbia and DPM/FM Donika Schwartz of Kosovo to this meeting, as well as of Ambassador Lambrinidis, Head of EU delegation.

President,

  1. At the very outset let me reaffirm my country’s earnest desire to see peace and stability prevail in the region. We hope that earnest efforts would be made to strengthen efforts that lead to inter-communal bonding.
  2. We welcome the holding of inaugural session of the constituent Assembly of Kosovo and hope that the political process in Kosovo would move forward with early formation of the government. We congratulate the government of Kosovo and its people for the peaceful holding of local elections.

President,

  1. My delegation is cognizant of the complex history of this region. We, therefore, remain convinced that only a sustained dialogue, and earnest and full implementation of commitments made under the 2013 Brussels Agreement, and the 2023 (Ohrid) Agreement can lead to lasting peace, stability and tranquility in the region. We appreciate the European Union’s continued commitment and efforts to facilitate dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. We hope that both sides will sincerely commit to the political process and refrain from unilateral actions that escalate tensions.

President,

  1. Divisive rhetoric, hate speech, and incidents of religious intolerance remain a matter of concern. All efforts must be made, by both sides, to effectively curb such negative trends that give rise to communal tensions. In this context, we note, with appreciation, the efforts by UNMIK to foster dialogue, promote harmony and spirit of co-existence among various communities in Kosovo.
  2. We are concerned by the lack of tangible progress to bring those responsible for the Ibër-Lepenc canal and the Banjskë attack of 2023 to justice. We hope that the authorities from both sides would cooperate earnestly towards this end.

Mr. President,

  1. Pakistan enjoys friendly relations with both Kosovo and Serbia and remains a steadfast supporter of a stable and prosperous Balkans. This, we believe can only be achieved through commitment to the principle of peaceful co-existence, showing mutual respect, recognizing mutual sensitivities and by earnestly abiding to the previous agreements. I thank you.
