In 1939, Leon Ciurzyński left his home in a small village near Łódź to fight the German invaders.
He never returned.
For more than 80 years, the family didn’t know where he was buried…
"My grandmother was 9 years old when Leon went off to war.
She thought about him her whole life.
When she learned we had found his grave, she couldn’t believe it.
Even though she could barely walk, she insisted she had to go.
In the alley at Powązki Cemetery, she practically ran with a cane to her brother’s grave.
She lit a candle.
For the first time since 1939.
And the last…"
The "Don’t forget about us" (Don’t Forget About Us) Foundation renovated several thousand war graves at the Powązki Military Cemetery. Through their research, they managed to restore the names of over a thousand soldiers who had been buried under the name N.N. for over 80 years, including Leon Ciurzyński.

Beautiful picture, thanks for publishing.
Beautiful….in the end they met again…
Powerful and emotional picture
Dlaczego te napisy na grobach takie dziwne, jakby randomowe?
It looks realistic, but she looks a bit odd, I don’t know what but something is wrong, the grass looks weird and all graves look the same which is very rare in Poland, I think it might be AI
I didn’t know that is snowing that hard in Warsaw…
Weird names and the snow tells me it’s AI.
Ile takich przykrych historii z rąk sąsiadów.
For those thinking it’s AI, I was also immediately suspicious- it is not snowing now in Warsaw and I wasn’t able to find mr. Ciurzyński in the NGO’s database. But I did find the picture on Facebook, with the NGO commenting under, so it seems legit – I guess the names on the headstones behind are just blurred
Nie zapomnij o nas (do not forget about us) is a legit foundation.
There is a picture of the grave in the comments on Facebook
It looks AI because it is blurred by snow and maybe a bit edited
