North Macedonia appears to be taking concrete steps toward a return to the Eurovision Song Contest. According to the Minutes of the 13th Session of the MRT Program Council, the national broadcaster has reported “improved finances, a clear selection plan, and a detailed review of production capacities” — key factors that strengthen the case for a comeback.

As Eurovision Fun had previously reported, MRT was still in the discussion phase earlier this year, evaluating whether a 2026 participation would be feasible. However, the newly published council minutes paint a far more optimistic picture.

During the October 8th meeting, council member Ivana Efremovski noted that the Program Council continues to receive numerous fan requests urging the broadcaster to return to Eurovision. Many of these messages specifically proposed Macedonian-Australian artist Bobi Andonov as the country’s next representative. Remarkably, Andonov himself directly contacted the council, expressing his interest and sharing a comprehensive proposal.

According to the document, Andonov informed MRT that an Australian government body responsible for authors and composers had agreed to support North Macedonia’s participation, both financially and through media coverage. His team has also established an international fund to cover additional campaign costs, ensuring that no MRT or state funds would be required. Alongside his proposal, Andonov sent two detailed presentations outlining a marketing strategy, production team, and concept for the song’s video and staging.

This comes at a time when MRT’s finances are reportedly stabilizing. General Director Marjan Cvetkovski emphasized that the broadcaster’s 2026 budget is already largely allocated, following a period of careful financial planning. Such developments suggest that MRT is once again positioning itself as an active player on the European media scene — and potentially, the Eurovision stage.

While no official decision has yet been made, the tone within the council seems more confident than in previous sessions. With improved resources, growing international collaboration, and strong fan interest, North Macedonia’s return to Eurovision in 2026 now looks more likely than ever — though final confirmation from MRT is still pending.
