Yeah no, I ain’t sacrificing a damn thing while corporations, CEOs and the very wealthy aren’t being told the same
People will get what they voted for.
We started sacrificing about a decade ago. Is he talking about the rich now? Are the rich the only people he talks to?
It’s time to sacrifice being the world’s piggy bank. Canadian tax dollars need to stay in Canada and work for Canadians. Hopefully we could lower the tax rates as well if we are not funding a bunch of things that we should not be.
Carney won’t be sacrificing a goddamn thing. I’d slap that ‘we’ out of his mouth if I could.
Imagine howndifferent it could be if we weren’t paying $30 to $40 Billion dollars to people who claim to be a seperate nation within our nation (not Quebec). Time for this to end.
Yeah this is incredibly dumb. Still hard finding steady permanent work. Let’s see the wealthy sacrifice first, second, and third. Invest in the CANADIAN working class.
Maybe don’t give handouts to refugee scammers and give jobs back to Canadian citizens?
How about we “sacrifice” the rich for a change.
“If you can’t stash your wealth offshore, you will have to make sacrifices.”
This is what Canada needs and what Canadians need to hear. We need to stop the ideology inspired wants and refocus our priority on needs; food, shelter, security – both fiscal and physical. Hopefully this budget hits the mark on those topics and understands Canadians are fed up with taking out debt to pay for gender studies programs in Pakistan.
Carney is still a politician, and any self-preserving politician knows that you never sacrifice your own base (older Canadians overwhelmingly voted liberal) just in case the budget leads to an election.
Most likely the people sacrificed will be the youth, who don’t really vote that much and mostly voted conservative in the last election.
It’s not a coincidence that he delivered the “we’ll need to make sacrifices” speech to a bunch of uOttawa students.
Don’t we sacrifice enough with the amount of taxes we pay? The government needs to sacrifice not spending our money on stupidity and putting it towards things that help Canadians. We just sold one of our biggest refineries out west to the states by the way
Why is it always the working class and those with the least that need to “sacrifice”? How about the millionaires and billionaires sacrifice for a change?
But we can still send billions overseas? Why do I need to sacrifice as a Canadian while Bangladesh gets $334 million of our tax dollars that to be clear is just additional debt.
Going to need to sacrifice more of your pay cheque to pay for more spending so you have less money to spend on things that make you happy.
Corps own us all and he wants us to get used to it
Just when I was about to get my Disney+ back and now this….
Why did he pledge [400 million to Gaza?](https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/article-868449)
Why are they moving ahead on 870 million costly and wasteful gun buyback?
We spent 10 billion budget alone in foreign aid [between 2023-2024. ](https://www.international.gc.ca/transparency-transparence/international-assistance-report-stat-rapport-aide-internationale/2023-2024.aspx?lang=eng) I mean its hard to stomach all these sacrifices.
Sacrifice? Lmfao. What more can Canadians sacrifice? You already gave away money. You already give away our Jobs. You already gave away housing.
I suppose you are coming for the air we breathe?
We could use a lot less politicians.
Just a friendly reminder that when Carney was chair of Brookfield, he made the company dodge 6.5 billion dollars in Canadian taxes. And before becoming PM moved the company to the USA. Now he wants to lecture us on making sacrifices. Classic.
How about starting with reducing the ridiculous salaries, pensions, and allowances of ministers, governor, etc.? For example, billing the taxpayer for a family trip to Quebec to attend a French meeting or a party caucus meeting is unacceptable when the country’s economic outlook is not great.
Where is the accountability? We can’t question the abuse of where are money is going, leaving the country to fund programs/ projects we haven’t even heard of.
Thank God most of my investments, real estate and equity was acquired during the Harper government.
Everything is already so expensive and I am lucky to be relatively well off.
I can’t imagine doing it again today..
I would have nothing…
I genuinely feel bad for today’s youth… they will grow up accomplishing very little and always feel needing..
any parents out there start investing to help your kids when they get older..
things won’t be getting better for them… We ruined their future.
I hate this speech but I don’t think it’s necessarily talking about personal sacrifice, I think he’s saying in order to do the things we need to do, the gov is going to have to cut spending on the “nice to have” or “moral good” things.
The most common things that come up regarding that stuff is often things like climate/environmental spending, gender equality, indigenous spending, international spending, etc.
These are all “nice to have” but they have little impact on the immediate economy.
I think he’s preparing this to say “Look, this stuff is going to be wildly unpopular with certain people, and it’s going to hurt to sacrifice spending on these issues because they *are* important, but we can’t afford to spend on them right now”.
Him first, got two kids in there twenties and watching them struggle to even find a job as we keep bringing in temp worker.
How much more sacrifice do we need to do.
Liberals have been sacrificing this country for the last decade.
I lost my job 8 months ago, I can’t find another one to save my life. I’m already depending on my folks to cover groceries for me. I’m probably going to lose my house, and be moving back in with them sometime in the new year.
What else do you want me to sacrifice, Carney?
What does he mean? 42% marginal tax rate isn’t sacrifice already?
Candians, it might be time to sacrifice those in power and legislative positions. Our government is telling us to get used to a lower living standard all while most of us cannot afford groceries and rent at the same time.
Former firearms retailer here.
We started a 7-figure firearms business in Canada just over a decade ago. Zero debt, profitable from Day 1.
We followed every rule and regulation in a highly regulated, and legal industry.
We remitted hundreds of thousands of dollars in GST, payroll taxes and corporate income taxes to the government.
The Trudeau government killed our business by banning legally owned and regulated rifles and handguns in 2020 and 2022.
We laid off all our of staff and are closed our doors last year.
ZERO dollars remitted to the Government of Canada in taxes for the last 3 years.
There’s your “sacrifice”
