Once upon a time, I saw this historical flag of Croatia, but I did not know that it was the oldest until I read some Hungarian historical literature in a little more detail in search of the oldest historical flag of Bosnia. Considering the value of this flag, I thought it worth posting it on the biggest Croatian subreddit. If nothing else, for those Croats who love heraldry and vexillology, and history in general.
A little something about the flag:
The flag is kept in Forchtenstein Castle in Austria and dates back to the 17th century. It was used at the coronation of King Ferdinand IV. in Požun, June 16, 1647. Its bearer was a member of the Esterházy family, which, among other things, owns the castle. It is not known exactly when it was made, but it can be assumed that it was made in the same year when the coronation took place, for the purpose of the coronation. The flag was discovered by the Hungarian historian Géza Pálfy in 2012.
