I went to the only Wegman’s in CT and I am still lost on what I’m missing. The premade foods are so expensive (a container of Wegman’s fresh baked cookies was $18).
For regional stores, I prefer going to Stew Leonard’s, but most of our grocery budget is spent at Aldi and Trader Joe’s, with a bit at BJ’s Warehouse.

Man I miss Wegmans, got spoiled on the east coast having one right by my house.

Is this the former Yankee, Ian Kennedy?
Also, Wegmans is awesome.

I have never been more east than Reno, NV, what is Wegmans?

Here’s all the Wegmans and Price Choppers plotted by 25km clusters to see how many were near one another: https://i.imgur.com/iQ8to25.jpg
As it turns out almost every Price Chopper is within a 140KM circle around Schenectady NY and only 5 of the 25km clusters has both a Wegmans and a Price Chopper

That is nicely done. I wonder about the 20-minute cutoff, though. If you live in a rural area or a dense urban area, it often takes more than 20 minutes to get to a grocery store. It might be a better selling point if they added another ring.
RadarIndicated on
Does this account for traffic?
I am in the DC area in a 10-15 minute ring, but in my experience, anything under 25 minutes would require a police escort.

5 minutes and it’s very nice. That was one of the considerations when looking for land to build a house on.

What dataset did you use for the drive time analysis?

That one in central/upper PA is interesting. Must be at the foot of a mountain cause you can only get to it quickly from the north

A friend of mine is a gourmet cook. He told me recently that he was house-hunting, and one of the main requirements for the new place was that it needed to be close to Wegman’s. Their customers are fiercely loyal.

Hmm. I didn’t go to one in NYC and now I wish I did.
Also someone should make one of these but for HEB. My nearest one is about a 10 minute drive.

Love me wegmans.
I live between the 2 zones in central NJ. 20 min is pretty close to my experience. But I would never go at noon on a weekend – too busy for parking.
A rare thing in NJ is that wegmans is one of the few grocery stores that also sells alcohol. One stop, plus the selection is way better than local liquor store which has Corona, Bud, AND Bud Light.

Oh, they build them in places where there are a lot of people, especially people who have money.
That’s pretty clever of them, gotta admit.
This must be why I have failed in my last several attempts to open an upscale gourmet grocery store on a remote, barren tundra.

When we moved last, one of the factors we included was how far the place was to a Wegmans. We literally drive past 2 other grocery stores to get to a Wegmans, and it is worth it.

Technically two if you count the one in Brooklyn…

Most of central and east Philly near the Ben Franklin bridge can get to the Cherry Hill NJ Wegmans in under 20 mins.

From one GISer to another: If you “Insert Dynamic text”, you can add a sources text box. This will allow you to either place it in one location, or off to the side so you can make a custom one… thus removing the excess text from taking up all of your insets.

Does the little dot in New York represent the two block radius around the Wegmans in Brooklyn? Traffic around that area is nutty as fuck.

I heard the owner of Price Chopper and Wegmans have a handshake deal keeping their stores out of the other’s territory. Hence no Wegman’s in a natural fit like the North Country NY

Once people experience Wegmans, most will not move to an area without one. Whole foods and trader joes, etc aren’t as good.

There are parts of Philly that can get to one in 20 mins on a Saturday at noon but it doesn’t look that way on the map

Utica has been begging for a wegmans since as long as I’ve been involved in the conversation. It is astounding that there isn’t one there.
And for the record, the Ithaca wegmans is a religious experience. Just… just magical.

I guess I’m lucky since I have four stores within a 10 minute drive.
