The Minister of Internal and External Trade, Jagoda Lazarević, met with representatives of the international retail chain Carrefour, which has expressed interest in entering the Serbian market, the Ministry announced.
“The meeting was held at the initiative of Carrefour, one of the leading retail chains in Europe, operating in more than 30 countries and generating revenues amounting to tens of billions of euros. Their priority is a market regulated according to European Union standards and healthy competition among retail chains. The arrival of retailers such as Carrefour would certainly contribute to strengthening competition, offering consumers a wider selection and better access to quality products at competitive prices. Our goal is for the market to be dynamic, healthy, and stable – for the benefit of the citizens,” said Minister Lazarević after the meeting.
The Carrefour retail chain is known for its wide range of food and non-food products, high service standards, and programmes that support local producers and sustainable production. In Europe, Carrefour successfully combines hypermarkets, supermarkets, and small urban stores, tailoring its offer to the needs of local markets.
“We discussed their specific plans. Their intention is to enter our market directly, without intermediaries, to make Serbia a central hub, and to engage a large number of Serbian companies as suppliers. The business model they are considering also includes finding local partners for franchises. It has been agreed that talks will continue until the end of the year, when members of Carrefour’s top management will visit Serbia,” said Minister Lazarević.
