Slovenian MEP Irena Joveva believes that it is unfair to place North Macedonia in the same situation as Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina when it comes to progress on the European path.

“I have to say that Montenegro and Albania, and especially Montenegro, are really or more really the vanguard in the region in terms of reforms and progress. Although I wouldn’t like it to seem like I’m criticizing European Commissioner Marta Kos or the Commission, I think it’s a bit unfair to seem like we’re, if I may say so, in the same situation as Serbia, and even Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Joveva tells AIM.

Joveva, who is part of the liberal group “Let’s Renew Europe”, points out that this is particularly unfair, if we know what is happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially in Serbia.

“It’s not so much that the state of North Macedonia has not progressed, there is progress, but the assessment is very general, very general. Of course, it cannot be said that North Macedonia has progressed as much as Montenegro, but it deserves to be said clearly and loudly that there is progress,” Joveva emphasizes.

According to her, if the European Commission’s 2025 Report on the country is specifically read, it will be seen that it has nevertheless achieved progress and this should be emphasized, and not said to be in the same basket as Serbia or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Slovenian MEP believes that the assessments that the European Union is not interested in accepting the country into the EU and that it is only using Bulgaria as an excuse are not correct. /Telegraph/
