Given that I was recently at the book fair in Belgrade, I googled what the neighbors’ VAT rate is on books. I see that they have a preferential or reduced rate of 10%, so I check Croatia, then Montenegro…
Long story short: Denmark had the highest VAT rate on books in Europe (25%). But the Danes did managed to agree that from next year that rate will be 0%. Which means that from the first of January, the highest rate of VAT on books will be in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
All and every country in Europe, including those not listed in the table above, such as Georgia, Moldova, Kosovo, or war-torn Ukraine, have a reduced VAT rate on books. All and one, except Bosnia and Herzegovina. It says something about our attitude towards knowledge. In fact, he doesn’t speak somethingsays it all.
Since the day VAT was introduced, politicians have assured us that introducing a differential reduced rate on food items or books would be technically terribly complicated, a nightmare so to speak, and that it was better not to deal with it. It will turn out that it is not complicated at all for such giants as Kosovo or Moldova, but only for us.
To make matters worse, I can’t find a single media outlet in this country that has written about this, even at the level of curiosity: believe it or not, we have the highest VAT rate on books in Europe!
Since they like to steal from subs, I think that a similar title will appear somewhere now.

Sto je manje edukovana populacija to je lakše sa njom upravljati. Prosto

i rumunija ima najjaci alkoholizam ali je procenat iznajmljenih boravista najnizi u evropi
svaka drzava ima neke dobre i lose strane, a bosnu svi samo gledaju sta je najgore u njoj
ko je ikad razmisljao o stopi pdva na knjige u ovoj drzavi, kome je to bio prioritet? sve ce doc na red
Inb4 objava tipa “Kad će narod izaći na cestu zbog PDV-a na knjige”?
Iako postoji neka rasprostranjena teorija da mi ne citamo toliko,ima toliko knjizara po vecim gradovima koje su uvijek pune kupaca,barem po mom nekom vizuelnom sudu.

Da ga stave i 0% – neće se čitanje povećati među populacijom, tako da chill. Ko je čitao, čitat će i da je 30% PDV, ko nije – neće ni sa 0%.
Ne brini. I po PDV na lijekove smo pri samom vrhu.
Strasno je to. Ali iskreno, mislim da relativno mali broj ljudi cita knjige 🙁 licno, trudim se naci barem jednu koja mi privuce pozornost u dva-tri mjeseca.
Bar imamo piratske stranice u nekoj sivoj zoni, pa to kompenziramo 🙂
