Surprised as these days resignation comes much harder to people, usually they try and ride it out.
Were either due before the media committee? Or were they sacrificed to make that easier for whoever is going to be questioned?

Summary
BBC director general Tim Davie and News CEO Deborah Turness resign over Trump documentary edit
The Telegraph published details of a leaked internal BBC memo suggesting the programme edited two parts of Trump’s speech together so he appeared to explicitly encourage the Capitol Hill riots of January 2021
The leaked memo came from Michael Prescott, a former independent external adviser to the broadcaster’s editorial standards committee. He left the role in June
Tut tut tut.

Not surprised. News cannot become propaganda, no matter how unlikeable the subject.

Shame they couldn’t find a way to oust fellow Tory cunt Laura Kuenssberg with them

Why did nobody have to resign after the BBC edited out laughter at Boris Johnson during the 2019 general election?
Successful-Pin-1946 on
Boris totally destroyed the news and BBC, weird this happened over Trump but maybe the quality can go back to where it should be.
It actually disgusts me when I can’t sleep and turn on the news and it’s an American in some dark dingy studio. I really miss the way BBC news used to be.

Good opportunity for Labour to put in someone less partisan

Nobody resigned when they covered up Huw Edwards though?
(they knew the family of young boys was asking about him at the same time as the police were investigating him)

Bloody hell, BBC News decides it’s Kelvin Mackenzie we need to hear from. Though he’s doing his best to sound reasonable and measure.
Wait! He’s just suggested closing down BBC News and concentrating on popular entertainment.

Makes you wonder what else they’ve edited that’s gone unnoticed. I remember when the BBC edited out the audience laughter when Boris Johnson said he doesn’t lie.

Does this mean the BBC won’t have a right-wing bias anymore?

Good start. The BBC now needs to fire Jonathan Munro, Senior News executive, who said:
“There was no attempt to mislead the audience about the content or nature of Mr Trump’s speech before the riot at the Capitol. It’s normal practice to edit speeches into short form clips.”
I’m genuinely baffled by the level of arrogance to respond like that after being caught red handed.
The BBC is one of our most important institutions but ideological capture from morons like this has massively damaged the organisation’s credibility.

So dumb lmao. Of all people you have to make up things about – Trump???

Really?
Report the news and let us as a nation decide based on the facts.
The facts that we pay you as a State owned broadcaster to collect and show us. Both good and bad because that’s life.
“Some mistakes were made” – you are a disappointment Mr Davie to allow this to happen on your watch.
Still, you got well paid so fuck the truth right?

Strange timing on a Sunday, whats coming out in the papers tomorrow as to resign over the trump edit stuff seems very extreme

No surprise. Anyone who checked the actual transcript of the speech knew it was a little misrepresented in the press.

Right decision. A truly moronic thing to do. There’s enough evidence of Trump saying bad / autocratic stuff that you don’t need to edit it anyway

And yes…the BBC….the only true independent and honest news source in the world. No politicial bias at all. Whilst sending threatening letters to people monthly and sending goons to people houses to scare and extort them for money. And yet people openly say this ‘company’ should be funded by the tax payer instead of the TV licence. lol
They shouldn’t be funded at all. Biggest scam going

It’s a sad day really. I’m a big supporter of the BBC and will continue to be so, but even I appreciate that what we’ve learnt over the conduct over the past few weeks has been disappointing.

I found it astounding that a media commentator who worked at the BBC over 10 years ago stated on Sky News that he didn’t know what had happened at the BBC…It’s really quite simple. Freeze the licence fee.
Then, it had to restructure and hollow-out staff, some of which kept quality control in place across journalism.
Come forward to recent years and glaring gaps in quality control have become apprent.
Those whose heads have rolled in this article weren’t responsible in the entirety for this mess.

I wish we could somehow get alternative media to be held to account like this. This story was exposed by the telegraph and the BBC apologised and the journalists resigned.
Meanwhile your favourite podcaster and twitter shitposter has the same engagement, cranking out more lies and misinformation, and can just meme through controversy and make zero concessions when their dogshit journalism is fact checked. These alt media personalities can do this whilst relentlessly slandering mainstream media 🥴

This is fucking bullshit and this is only going to make the BBC more reluctant to call out liars and despots for what they are. Some of you lot need to get a grip about the BBC

Like cutting the head off Hydra, two more traitorous snakes will take their place.
Abolish the TV tax. Leave the BBC to survive on it’s merits.

lapse in standards, senior people should take responsibility, that’s what they have been paid for.
and… i can’t help but feel sad that the trump administration hasn’t commented on channel 4’s “trump vs truth…”

Just shows how dirty both sides play it.
They do their best to keep us divided and squabbling over who is right.
We all need to stop falling for this shit and make it our business to remove every government at each election regardless.

I get the Telegraph is doing this because they hate the BBC, but they’ve literally just removed a Tory loyalist so not sure how this helps them.
I guess they want some Reform idiot put in place. Not sure how that’s gonna happen with Labour in charge.

Tim Davie has always been utterly unsuited to that job. I’m glad the Government have found a reason to force his resignation. There have been more serious things than this he has survived

It makes you wonder what other lies about certain figures they have gotten away with. I would like to know if they have made a similar mistake when it comes to senior American politicians of the left like Biden, Obama and the Clinton’s. Something tells me the opposite would be the case…

What an incredibly stupid decision on their behalf to doctor that video. There is sooooo much ammo against that fascist prick and yet the BBC play dirty and legitimise accusations of fake news. You can bet this story will be trotted out by the hard right and tankies for a long time as evidence for the corrupted main stream media. Idiots.
