So my neighbours have this light which more often than not is on and it stays on for long, so not just 5 min. I have yet to notice a moment where it turned off again. Doesn‘t this count as light pollution and is this even legal?

I have a company on the other side of the street, where some moron regularily forgets to turn off the light. I’ve just glued a piece of cartoon on my window, blocking that part of light that was landing on my head through the holes in the window blinds. Problem solved in ugly but effective way.

Print off these 2 photos with a note that explains it affects your home, they could easily install something to shield the top of the light so it doesn’t shine upwards as much and hopefully they’ll respond to a gentle note.

  3. “Blendschutz” is the thing you are looking for or Bewegungsmelder which they could install

I have something similar 5 meters away from my bedroom, and it stays on the whole night. I tried reaching out to people but as usual the only solution is the one you implement yourself. In my case I had to put opaque curtains and in summer get used to sleep with light if I want the breeze coming through the window.

In your case you can place a very powerful and directional reflector pointing to them. In my case it is a public luminary so unfortunately it ‘belongs to no one’ so I literally cannot do anything.

Are you sure your neighbour isn’t trying to guide ships around? Because that’s a freaking lighthouse you have there.

  6. Hey OP, if you gonna go ask them to switch off the light, would you ask them for what initial reason they have it? It seems so useless. Just curious…

What are they trying to do with that light? Keeping vampires 400 km away? Replacing the sun? Or is it just the picture?

  8. Count yourself lucky, my neighbor leaves their super-bright kitchen light on ALL NIGHT LONG.
