Benjamin Sesko has been forced to withdraw from the Slovenia national team squad after a left knee injury he suffered in the match against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The striker will remain at United’s training centre in Carrington, where he will continue to be assessed by the club’s medical staff.

However, it is reported that the injury is not serious. According to the Manchester Evening News, the extent of the problem will be fully understood before the next match against Everton on November 24, once additional tests are completed.

Sesko was forced off in the final minutes of the 2-2 draw with Tottenham, in his 11th Premier League appearance since joining from RB Leipzig this summer for €76.5m.

His absence is a heavy blow to the Slovenian national team, which hopes to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup play-offs in decisive group matches against Kosovo and Sweden.

“We need Ben to be a better team,” United manager Ruben Amorim said after the Tottenham game. “He felt a problem in his knee, so we need to see what it is exactly.”

A serious injury to Sesko would be a major blow for Amorimi, who will also lose two other strikers – Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast) and Bryan Mbeumon (Cameroon) – due to the Africa Cup of Nations which runs from December 21 to January 18. The tournament coincides with six Premier League matches and the third round of the FA Cup.

Since his summer transfer, Benjamin Sesko has played 12 games for Manchester United, scoring two goals and providing one assist.Telegraph/
