Every Single One Of Loeb’s 3I/ATLAS “Anomalies” Deconstructed | Avi Loeb carefully hedges the probability it’s a spacecraft around 40%, giving him plausible deniability of the bad-faith “just asking questions” variety while still making the comet sound weird enough to get him TV time and fan mail.

The man has found his grift, it’s relatively harmless alien baiting and maybe NASA can use it to get more budget in the future. You don’t have to pay attention to him.
There’s not enough evidence to warrant a 40% probability. Maybe 2% would be realistic
I hate people like this, abusing influence to fear monger the uneducated
Yes, that site. And:

Ahhh yes, this type of harmless speculation totally couldn’t lead to a Heaven’s Gate part 2.
The entirety of the planetary science, astronomy, and astrophysics community has also been calling him out and correcting him regularly on BlueSky.
Whats wrong with a little bit of open minded discussion/speculation with regards to new anomalous comets??
Yeah, let’s give some additional exposure to each of all those pseudo-science scammers that just trying to cash out any loud news.
Being open minded is one thing. Making a statement like that? Thats ridiculous. He makes a perfect Joe Rogan guest. I’ll give him that.
I mean, why wouldn’t you send a probe billions of tonnes in mass. That only makes sense right?
I have seen Ari Loeb on NBC’s YouTube videos a ton…at first, I was I thought it a single interview, but he seems to be their main expert on this…I didn’t know much about him but even I was thinking he seemed well, unscientific…
Awe so cute.. Jason Wright wants to get in on the action at the tail end (pun intended).
Can a moderately successful YouTuber reach out to him, please? He needs to get his hard candies.
Avi Loeb should be censured in some way at this point. It is irresponsible to say the things he is saying.
I just try ro remind people that the object probably entered the oort cloud around 1500 years ago. So thats hell of a long game
I don’t understand why instead of trying to bash, discredit and debunk someone else’s work people could just present the accurate information and call it a day.
It’s just so weird how this boiling down to “you’re stupid if you think this isn’t a comet” vs “omg it’s the aliens” and no one is talking about how awesome and exciting it is that we can finally observe and gather information on an interstellar object since we missed the last one.
So 4/10 anomalous behaviors actually warrant questioning and physicists say it’s weird but definitely not a spacecraft. I’m confused because I thought he was claiming it could be a spacecraft, and everyone from the other side is screaming, it’s not a spacecraft it can’t be a spacecraft and we explained all these anomolies… except the ones that are real. But still no possible way it’s a spacecraft. I thought science was about the possibilities until proven otherwise…
Loeb: “Forty percent of the time it works everytime!”
So there is this great turn of phrase I love in the science and space community, “It is never aliens even when it’s aliens.”
This basically means that it isn’t aliens until we know it is aliens beyond a shadow of a doubt because of confirmation bias.
Odds are as we get better at tracking smaller space objects we would find more objects that zoom through solar system with reasonable changes to trajectory because of things like added heat and off gassing. So with as small of a sample size that we have the odds these are alien probs or craft are fairly low.
There are three types of aliens that could visit us:
1.) A Civilization near enough to our own level technology sending out probes.
2.) A Civilization so advance faster that light travel is possible by bending gravity or some other thing we don’t understand yet. That really wouldn’t have only a study the ants interest in us. They likely couldn’t even be detected at our current level of technology.
3.) Microbes on a space rock.
So Is it one of those three ? I doubt it if it were it would only likely be the first and the 3rd type. The 3rd type we can’t effectively prove one way or the other. The first type it highly unlikely because we like to prescribe our thought process to an alien, heck even I did that in my 3 types of aliens. That is our nature.
To put it in perspective why it is doubtful it is the first type. Here are some raw numbers. The object would have to be close enough to have been from our galaxy or a next door galaxy at most because of the age of the universe and time it would take to travel here. Next we would have to have an alien Civilization that would have similar motives to our own, Other animals don’t even think like we do so what are the odds a whole different evolutionary chain would be similar. Next we would have to have it inside the window that makes intelligent life possible, and sent it out while we would also be here an now.
You put all that to getter you get odds that would make it millions if not billions of times more likely to win a lottery.
He’s a grifter grifting. He knows it’s nothing.
This is Loeb’s version of retiring and selling energy crystals.
Hedging a bet means “I believe that x *is most likely true (>50%)*, but in the off chance that it’s not true…”
Believing an explanation is 40% likely to be correct, means you believe there is a *greater likelihood* that it is not correct.
So i reached out to the Heavens Gate designated survivor (yes actually, they still have someone running the old website) to ask if we should be concerned about 3I/ATLAS and they very confidently replied that this one is just a normal space rock and to not believe the lies about it being a possible spacecraft. Sometimes you gotta ask the experts. Really set my mind at ease.
You know, maybe if we stop talking about him and all of his BS he’ll just go away eventually?
You know, I expected a lot of wild things this year, but “Harvard tard says it’s aliens, definitely all the time 40% of the time” wasn’t on my bingo card. I always thought they only let in smart people.
Yeah getting tired of Loeb tbh
He’s riding the skirt of the far right wing nutjobs.
You can ask questions. But when as a supposed expert on subject matter, you undermine every other authority on the subject, you are just making yourself and everyone that hears you a little dumber.
