WANA (Nov 11) – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office in Geneva has voiced strong concern over recent statements by U.S. officials suggesting the possible resumption of nuclear weapons testing.

In a letter addressed to the President and Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament (CD), Ambassador Ali Bahreini expressed Iran’s deep alarm at the remarks, stressing that such statements violate the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and customary international law.

He added that these comments undermine the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), exacerbate the global arms race, and endanger international peace and security.

Ambassador Bahreini also reiterated Iran’s call for all nations to fully adhere to their disarmament and non-proliferation commitments and to uphold the integrity of the global disarmament and non-proliferation regime.
