  1. OP, not sure what you used to translate the title, but the correct word is [Materiel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Materiel), not Material 🙂

    > Nur ein Land kann nicht profitieren: die Ukraine. Das war gemäss Quellen eine Bedingung der SVP.

I’m in favor of relaxing the War Materiel, but fuck the SVP.

  2. With the current laws the Swiss defence sector is doomed unless Switzerland decides to buy everything domestically (which it won’t). So changing the law is a step in the right direction.

Why would a country buy Swiss arms if it knows supplies will be restricted once a war breaks out. Sure some may argue weapons are a deterrent, but in an increasingly hostile world a smart actor would also want to make sure that you can actually use and maintain your arms during a prolonged period of war.

  3. Yeah, Vlad would be upset and would not love them anymore.

edit: One more thought: liberals with both feet on the ground and truly right-minded people always shared one thing: we were always against the communists. Honestly, I’m still puzzled by how, in the past 15–20 years, a country so desperate to restore Stalin’s legacy has managed to fool so many people who should know better. I get that there are simple answers to complex questions, but still…

  4. Since the Kremlin has been buying right-wing politicians across Europe I wouldn’t be surprised if half of the SVP is already on the payroll. Ukraine is literally the only case at this moment where we desperately need to relax the rules for export. I remember when we introduced the ban that all the talk was about weapons going into acttive conflicts in the middle east, so it made sense at the time.

It sounds like they don’t mind making a franc or two off war and misery but they want to be paid for it, Ukraine is simply broke and can’t afford it.

Translation: Conservatives work for Russia. Not Swiss businesses who want to make money money money.

  7. Switzerland is already on a list of enemy countries of Russia and excluded from any peace talks as mediator. Macron proposed Switzerland as place for peace talks, Russia refused immediately any involvement of Switzerland. Also, US cut the budget and UN and connected agencies are sharply reducing staff.

Switzerland as neutral country is challenged and disputed and I assume they want to avoid any further agitation of Russia as it is permanent member of SC.

As UBS director said, Switzerland has identity crisis. Do we want to be neutral or not and what is neutrality are main questions that would answer this situation as well. Jobs are already moving to middle east and now peace talks are held there as well. World is moving and we just need to set our priorities. I think everyone was hoping this war would end soon so tough discussion could be avoided, but this seems highly unlikely anymore.
