As someone relatively not clued in on how this is measured. Does the current polling factor into the confidence, or is it purely a plus for the Tories?

Because there is a decent possibility of a change in government driving it, perhaps?

    3. As a businessman, I am feeling much more hopeful for the future. Nothing to do with the current economic situation, just 100% down to the fact that the Tories are about to get spanked and booted out of power.

      >The survey was conducted during the first two weeks of May, a period which coincided with theĀ [surprisingly strong first quarter GDP figures](https://www.cityam.com/recession-over-as-uk-economy-grows-faster-than-expected-in-first-quarter/). The figures showed that the UK grew 0.6 per cent in the first quarter, comfortably outperforming expectations.

      Not about the election.

Mostly falling inflation. Though this is perhaps why we are having an election, the kind of people making positive noises about this would be the kind of people who made Sunak think “blimey things can only get better”. Luckily someone read his thought bubble and went with it as a soundtrack to his announcement.

Have chatted to lots of other small business people and most believe there will be an uptick when the government changes. I had these conversations in April before the election was called.

Makes sense since Brexit is over – the high water mark is behind us.

A long road back towards proper EU relationship awaits.
