Poland Reopens Two Border Checkpoints with Belarus in Podlaskie Region

    As reported by RMF24

In the early hours of November 17, Poland opened two border crossing points on the border with Belarus in the Podlaskie Voivodeship – at Kuznica and Bobrowniki. Such border checkpoints had not operated for several years. Domestic media, including RMF24, confirm the information.

According to reports, Kuznica will handle only passenger vehicles, while Bobrowniki will handle passenger cars, buses and trucks. An official announcement about the opening of both points was made on November 14 after lengthy consultations with local authorities and the business community, which had previously called for restoring cross-border crossing and warned of economic losses from its closure.

Previously, only two of the six border crossing points on the Poland-Belarus border were operational. On September 9, the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, announced the decision to completely close the border with Belarus from September 12 due to increasing provocations by the Russian Federation and Belarus and the joint exercises “West-2025”.

On September 25, border traffic across the border was restored, although the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the time advised its citizens to leave Belarusian territory.

Significance of the opening and regional prospects

The resumption of operation of the two border crossings is aimed at easing cross-border travel for residents and businesses in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, and may also stimulate tourism and transit flows in the region.

According to official data at the time of the opening, Kuznica will serve only passenger traffic, and Bobrowniki will also handle buses and trucks.
