Fair dos. We had to pay much more than that in Vegas for their visitor tax.
Just like the exit tax, we need to point at America and say ‘they do it’.

So if you live outside of London you get to pay tax to support all the investment in arts and culture London gets and then pay again to access any it.

Does this apply to British citizens travelling into London, or only for foreign tourists?
The article did not clarify.

About time, all the major tourists cities have a tourist tax, like NY, LA, Amsterdam, Rome, Barcelona, etc. We should also use it to fund local services, infrastructure, and projects that support tourism and help mitigate its negative impacts, not just to promote more tourism.

I’m not from London but it’s depends whether you feel London suffers from over tourism, might be a valid argument for 3 months of the year but not really for the rest.

I’ve paid this in a lot of places I’ve been – even for work. It normally amounts to a couple of euros (or pesos, etc) a night.

So now people stopping in London overnight before leaving on a train or plane the next day are hit again? Love how much Westminster hates everywhere thats not London.

This is the type of taxation I can really get behind.
It’s done really well in other major tourist cities across Europe, and I’ve never minded having to pay it when visiting places like Venice (it was 3€ per night or something).
Kind of surprised they hadn’t already implemented it, to be honest.

If I have to pay a tax to go back home, when I rent a place outside london during the week, I will be livid.

I haven’t been to my home capital city in 25 years, I have absolutely no desire to pay for the privilege. This country is a mess.

Great, anyway….
Any news that actually benefits us?
How about reduced price on TfL for locals or some reasonably priced water?

It is a very small tax that you won’t even notice, not to mention that so many places in the UK already do it and so do other major cities around the world. It is not going to be pricing anyone out of staying in London and it will help provide more income for running vital services, which tourists use as much as locals. It is hardly the worst tax that could affect anyone and it benefits locals and tourists alike.

Does this make it more or less likely we get a WrestleMania?

Does tourism not naturally contribute to the economy?
