Hi everyone, I’m a bit confused and could use some advice. I recently received a notice requesting me to attend military service in Cyprus. I’m a woman, and as far as I know, women aren’t usually required to serve.

Last year, I had already requested an exemption because I was studying my bachelor’s degree, and I provided evidence for that. However, that exemption seems to have expired. On top of that, I haven’t lived in Cyprus for the past 5 years.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any official rule that women can be required to serve? I just want to make sure I understand what’s going on and what my options are.

  1. I think they are asking you to serve in civil defense. That’s different than the military. I think everyone who does not serve in the military does it and it’s just some lessons on first aid etc as far as I know

Touzhane street (Tuzhane) indicate that’s Turkish title land. Pretty sure the owner not agreed on a military or civil defence registration center on his land.

  3. It’s not military service. It’s civil service. It’s random- some women are randomly selected for it. Afaik most of them ignore it(?- someone confirm). I had a friend who did it though (but that’s because her dad was an army officer).

Civil deffence is a 2 service with 1 hour lecture every month on first aid and repsponces to earthquake, floods etc. and also one sort of an exercise/ patrol after an earthquake. If you can its best to go in person and sort it out or via email if you are abroad. and in greek preferably. The officers and the structure of the civil deffence is all based on volunteers.
