  1. NASA went to incredible lengths to make Apollo possible with the very feeble beginnings of computers back then. Ars Technica has a nice deep dive into the control center back then (really worth a read, even if it’s a long article):

    It’s unbelievable how much technology and engineering went into all that, and you see only the very surface of it in old videos. Things that now run on a simple computer back then had a floor of a building dedicated to it.
