Bulgaria’s public broadcaster (BNT) has confirmed our exclusive report from earlier this week, revealing details about the special national final that will select the country’s representative for Eurovision 2026. According to the announcement, BNT will choose from among the 40 most popular Bulgarian artists from recent months, who will then compete for the chance to represent Bulgaria on the Eurovision stage.

Clear Rules Through Collaboration with PROPHON

BNT has signed a partnership with PROPHON to ensure that participant selection is based on objective criteria, drawing from radio and television airplay data. As Anton Andonov, member of BNT’s Board of Directors, explained, the agreement guarantees that artists will be invited based on their actual performance and popularity, avoiding personal bias or subjective judgment.

PROPHON Chairman Viktor Kasamov emphasized that the company provides reliable and accurate data on the Top 40 most-played Bulgarian artists over the past eight months, which will serve as the basis for invitations to the national selection.

The National Selection Process

According to BNT, the selected artists will compete in one or more televised shows in January, with a likely semi-final preceding the grand final on January 31, 2026. The final will combine public voting with the input of a professional jury, ensuring that the chosen representative reflects both popularity and artistic quality.

Already among the potential participants are major names in the Bulgarian music scene, such as Dara, Mihaela Marinova, Galena Preslava, raising expectations for a strong return to Eurovision.

The song to be performed will be selected later through an internal process, following the announcement of the representative.
