TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwanese delegation attended a meeting at the Parliament of North Macedonia this week, resulting in protests from the country’s Chinese embassy.
The Macedonian Parliament announced the meeting on Wednesday between Deputy Speaker Antonio Milososki and Taiwan’s envoy to Italy Y.C. Tsai (蔡允中), along with two members of parliament, Fatmir Bytiqi and Rachel Mizrahi, reported Sloboden Pecat. The parliament also shared photos of the meeting on social media.
The following day, the Chinese Embassy published a letter of protest, accusing Milososki of breaking the country’s political commitment to the “one-China” principle. On Friday, the page announcing the meeting on the parliament’s website was deleted.
The Chinese Embassy accused Milososki of providing a platform for “political theatrics of separatist forces advocating Taiwan independence.” President Gordana Siljanavksa-Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski echoed China’s complaints and criticized Milososki’s decision to welcome the Taiwanese delegation, per Sloboden Pecat.
Milososki is a member of the International Parliamentary Alliance on China. He made a trip to Taiwan in 2024 to join an IPAC conference, which also angered China.
