Last night in Tirana, the new office of the Association “VMRO-DPMNE Albania”, a new organizing center for the Macedonian community there, was officially opened. The ceremony was held in the presence of dozens of members of the Macedonian minority, while the special guest was the Prime Minister of North Macedonia and at the same time the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski.

In his speech, Mickoski emphasized the importance of the Macedonian community in Albania having the opportunity to preserve its language, culture and identity, an opportunity that, as he said, Macedonians in the Pirin part of Bulgaria do not have.

“Macedonians there, even in the 21st century, are not allowed to register a non-governmental association, nor to freely express their identity,” Mickoski said, calling this a double standard in the region.

The head of the North Macedonian government added that the Macedonian state will remain a strong support for compatriots in the diaspora.

“We are hardworking, patient and wise. I assure you that, whether now or in the coming period, we will achieve our goal. North Macedonia is your home and will always welcome you with open doors,” he declared.

The opening of the association’s new office is seen as an important step for the Macedonian community in Albania, aiming to increase cultural and institutional cooperation with North Macedonia.
