Great Art… I knew most of them from seeing but didnt went deeper to know that all of these are from him.
That first one used to be owned by a certain high-ranking communist official that lived in an apartment building at ulica Alternatywy 4.
Needs to be mentioned, that Matejkos Sobieski at Vienna hangs in Vatican museums.
Probably known by most of people, but wasnt to me until last year when I was there. I had this “hey wait a second” moment.
During WW2 there was a multimillion mark bounty on Battle of Grunwald and the Nazis tortured and executed people who wouldn’t disclose it’s location, it was one of the highest on their loot priority list and human lives were lost just to protect it. It still remained hidden until the end of the war despite that. Maybe it’s not my favorite out of all paintings by Matejko but definitely culturally one of the most important pieces of art we have, I was overwhelmed with all sorts of emotions to see it for myself at the museum. It’s hard to realise how gigantic it really is from pictures, human figures are basically 1:1
Excellent manga colour spreads.
jakbym taką ramkę założył na zdjęcie starej, to bym już nigdy więcej nie zaruchał :/
I love his paintings. They inspire me often to be a better Pole
>arguably
I think you wanted to write “debatable”.
As much as their patriotic value was high, especially during partitions, art value was questioned. His style was focused providing enormous number of details instead of sublime message.
Only for people who know little about art
So underrated, polish painters really deserve more exposure. At the same time I’m so happy that I saw these paintings in person with no crowds and for a reasonable price.

Had the pleasure of witnessing the master piece and undoubtedly the best!
Wow, Matejko’s Grunwald battle is epic—feels like history coming alive!
Whoa, that bounty sounds like a real WWII thriller plot twist.
