Ministry of Culture, Giuli’s head of press office resigns: institutional tools used for the “pro Cirielli” electoral campaign

Piero Tatafiore has announced his “immediate and irrevocable” resignation: «I apologize for the use of institutional tools for political communications»

“I am three press releases in support of Cirielli’s candidacy for the presidency of the Campania Region», the PD deputies of the Culture commission protested in a note», adding: «Those press releases also reported false data on the government’s action in the Campania region. A shameful act, which has never occurred before: a very serious institutional breach. Giuli uses the institutions and offices of the ministry to campaign with citizens’ money. We will ask for an account of this and present parliamentary questions.”

for Giuli this resignation “is a necessary and irreversible act” because “any shadow of suspicion regarding the use of institutional communication tools for activities which, if anything, it is the agencies’ responsibility to report” is unacceptable.

The resignation, however, did not extinguish the controversy. And it is the same deputies of the PD Culture Commission who are protesting again: «Giuli does not take responsibility for his actions and has his staff resign. Another attempt at passing the buck at the Ministry of Culture.”
