Olympic champions David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig are now the world champions after they triumphed at the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships.
The Paris 2024 gold medallists prevailed in an all-Swedish men’s final on Sunday (23 November), coming through to beat Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson 2-0 (25-23, 21-19) in Adelaide, Australia.
Åhman and Hellvig, who won silver at the last World Championships two years ago, have gone one step further to become the youngest beach volleyball world champions ever, aged 23 and 24 respectively.
“Of course, we’ve always dreamt of winning a World Championship title,” Åhman told VBTV, “We didn’t believe we would make it this time as I’ve been injured, but we just kept playing better and better every single game and now we are here! It’s crazy!”
Hellvig continued, “It was just unbelievable and so cool that we had two Swedish teams in the final. And I’m just so proud of our team, of our coaches and, of course, of Jacob and Elmer as well!”
