AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Augusta Dream Center gave away turkeys on Sunday, with families being able to share a meal before the giveaway.
The Dream Center has been helping the CSRA for nine years and has been doing this giveaway for just as long.
They said there were people lined up at 11 a.m. to get the resources this evening.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit-and-run on Oak Street. According to deputies, the accident happened Saturday at 4:31 p.m. on the 400 block of Oak Street.

Sheriff Brantley and Mayor Johnson also helped with the giveaway.
The Dream Center said this year was especially hard for families due to the shutdown, and one recipient tells us what it means to him.
“It’s always so humbling to see people standing in line for a free meal and for a Turkey. And I think this year there was even added pressure because of just government shutdowns and the snap prices,” said Kellie Newman, executive director of the Augusta Dream Center.
“I was glad to have a nice family. And I had a good Thanksgiving dinner,” said Jonathan Brashear, attended.
