Testimony in the Brian Walshe murder case is expected to start in one week — and the high-profile trial will be closely watched not only in the United States, but in Ana Walshe’s home country of Serbia.

The mother of three immigrated from Serbia as a young woman, where her mother still lives. She attended the University of Belgrade in her native country, before moving to the U.S. and working her way up in the hospitality and real estate field.

For the latest episode of our podcast, The Searches for Ana Walshe, freelance Serbian reporter Jovana Djurovic joins us to discuss her experience covering the case from Serbia in the days following Ana’s disappearance — plus the continued interest in the cases outcome in the European country.

“No one ever deserved this,” Djurovic said. “But I think that it just adds up to this horror and why people are so drawn to this, because she’s a mother. And a mother in Serbia is a very special figure. It’s a very strong figure, it’s very important figure.”

You can listen to the latest episode wherever you get podcasts — and catch up on older episodes, too, to catch up on the case ahead of testimony beginning next week.

Walshe has pleaded guilty to dismembering Ana’s body and to misleading police — but he maintains his innocence in regards to the first degree murder charge he also faces in her disappearance.
