The Presidency of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) announced today that party leader Ljumir Abdixiku will be a candidate for Prime Minister of Kosovo in the parliamentary elections scheduled for December 28th.

Abdixiku said at a press conference that the LDK will compete independently in the parliamentary elections.

“Regarding the candidate for prime minister, although I opened the topic, the discussion was short-lived. The LDK presidency believed that, as long as I am the president of the party, then they should nominate me as the candidate for prime minister. At this point, I was given the powers that belong to me and as president I confirmed them, to compile a list,” he said.

He stated that he had given up the right to determine the order of the list, that is, the order of candidates for deputies.

“This will be done by a broader group, so that there is no dissatisfaction about who is ahead and who is behind. We also talked about cooperation in the national elections. The Presidency decided today that the LDK will run independently in the elections on December 28,” said Abdiziku.

One part of the list, he said, will be open to other parties, including Fatmir Limaja from the Social Democratic Party (NISMA).

“LDK will make sure that part of its list is opened up to other parties, including Limaj with his MPs. Discussions will be held on this issue in the coming days, but let’s say that there is a readiness. Just as there is a readiness for other parties such as the Christian Democrats, the Justice Party, and the Pacoli Alliance for a New Kosovo,” Abdixiku added.

The LDK is the first party in Kosovo to decide on a candidate for prime minister in the upcoming elections.

Party leaders Ajbin Kurti of Vetëvendosje, Behdri Hamza of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, and Ramush Haradinaj of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo are expected to be candidates for Prime Minister of Kosovo in the parliamentary elections on December 28.
