Dustin Dale Gaspard appeared in this week’s episode of “The Voice” ready to compete, after an illness kept him out of rehearsals before the premiere of the final knockout round episode of the season.

Gaspard needed to best singer Kirbi, also on Team Niall, in order to move on in the competition. The bilingual Cajun French musician from Cow Island, Vermilion Parish, chose “She Talks to Angels” by The Black Crowes for his performance, lending the song his signature swampy, blues-y air with the addition of a harmonica.

Unfortunately, his journey on season 28 would end there. Coach Niall Horan selected Kirbi to continue on his team, telling the country singer that her rendition of “Hard Fought Hallelujah” by Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll was her “best performance to date.”

“I have to go with what I’ve seen in the room in the knockout, and I think the winner is Kirbi,” he said. “She absolutely deserves to be in my top four.”

Dustin Dale Gaspard’s journey on The Voice started with a four-chair turn from coaches Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire, Michael Buble and Niall Horan thanks to his compelling blind audition performance of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me.”

He selected Horan to be his coach based on his fond memories of touring in Ireland, and their shared musical sensibilities.
