Defence has always been one of the most important industries.
It provides highly skilled well paying careers in areas of the country where there often are non. It’s reliable (or should be) as defence is and always will be needed.
It’s of national importance supplying both the UK and allied nations providing security and soft power.
The more you build and spend the better your supply chains, manufacturing and the more advanced your technology will be due to increased funding.
And the bigger it is the more you can make, the quicker you can make it when you need it.
Countries like to kiss ass to the countries with the biggest military and most advanced or affordable equipment to sell.
