Hi y’all. We live in one of those villages that get no sunshine in winter. On the 21st of december we only get around 20 minutes of sunlight (if, ofcourse, the valley is no packed with impenetrable fog), the rest of the day we spent in the shadow of, in our case: the Stanserhorn. It’s not a very high mountain but still, high enough. This picture was made today at 12:40, the sun had already been gone for a while now.

Anyone else with this phenomenon?

  1. I don’t understand what’s your point here? Asking for help? Complaining?

I lived in Glis for more than a year and there is no direct sunlight for couple of months. I survived without a scratch.

  2. I grew up in a mountain valley that faces north-south and yes that’s a universal problem in those places. Only after I moved out I realized how much I suffered from seasonal depression because of the lack of sunlight. My recommendation is to buy certified light therapy lamps (Finland is leading in this), it improved my mornings a lot. I have it on a timer to start 5 minutes before my alarm goes off.

at least it’s not grey all the time as in the wonderful central plateu. I can barely believe I saw the sun or even some blue sy yesterday or today 😀

  4. I lived two years on the shady side of a hill, not even a mountain- still, 2 months no sunlight. I got to see the other side of the valley lit beautifully though, while sitting in the shadow. So I just drove there for my daily vitamin D supply 😂 I don’t live there anymore and I’m very happy about that.

    windows block vitamin D anyways.
just go for a walk in the sun at lunch to get some sunlight on your skin.

  6. Same, but for me it’s not the Stanserhorn but the damn Rotzberg 🙂

Just go on top of the mountain instead of sitting in the shadow 😉

  7. “Anyone else with this phenomenon?”

Yes. All the people that live near a mountain. It’s just a natural thing. You’ll have your sun back in April, don’t worry xD

I don’t know if making a Reddit post for this is worth it but at least it starts some discussion.
