A person has sustained burns following a building fire in Upper Hutt this afternoon, with firefighters still working on extinguishing the blaze.
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson told 1News it received multiple 111 calls to the blaze on Alexander Rd in Trentham around 4.05pm.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found the building, measuring 30mx20m, well alight.
A police spokesperson told 1News officers were called to assist at the scene.
“Motorists are advised to avoid the area while emergency services continue to work at the scene,” the spokesperson said.
“Police will investigate to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.”

Footage shows flames and thick smoke billowing from the building.
A witness told 1News that tyres in the building were on fire.
Five fire trucks and three support vehicles from Trentham, Remutaka, Silverstream, Avalon, Wellington City and Thorndon are working to extinguish the blaze.
