  1. “The computer and printer maker expects the restructuring to affect about 4,000 to 6,000 employees

Chief Executive Enrique Lores said the restructuring plan is part of a push to adopt AI across the company to accelerate product and software development as well as automate customer support and some internal processes.

HP expects to incur about $650 million in costs related to the restructuring plan, including about $250 million in the current fiscal year. It expects the actions will result in annual savings of at least $1 billion by the end of fiscal 2028.”

Once they figure out how to commercialize AI it’s time to tax the absolute shit out of it. The AI layoffs have been staggering, a lot of those laid off won’t have anywhere to go and will eventually need government assistance. It’s a bigger burden than individual taxpayers can bear.

  3. During normal economic times, companies get punished in the stock market for layoffs because its a sign that the company isn’t doing well or expanding. As a result, they all hold off on getting rid of people until there is a downturn, at which time they all do the layoffs at the same time under the cover of a recession.

AI has given companies cover to do layoffs when things aren’t bad and many are taking advantage. Its really questionable just how much of this is true productivity gain and how much of it is trimming the fat.

  4. At the same time they are warning that the cost of computers will rise in 2026, because of the price of RAM, DRAM and SSDs rising because of the demand of the AI data centers. So cutting expenses doesn’t benefit the customer.

Loss of jobs, technology and electricity prices increase, corrosion of arts and culture, being unable to trust anything is true, scams, political manipulation. At least the stock owners are benefiting, unless the bubble crashes the whole stock market in a year or two.
