Artificial intelligence and robots have potential to boost agricultural production — and their possibilities are only beginning, a University of Florida researcher told the Florida Senate last week.
UF broke ground this month on the Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Hillsborough County.
According to Nathan Boyd, a professor at UF studying weed science and associate director of the center, artificial intelligence will provide a 35% boost to agricultural production, including in Florida, by 2030.
“We’re just seeing the start of what artificial intelligence and robotics can do in agriculture,” Boyd said while presenting to the Senate Committee on Agriculture.
“dwindling labor population” is the lie they tell to convince us this is necessary. The fast rising unemployment rate tells a different story.
We don’t have a labor shortage.
We have excessive employment, and probably a lot of it.
That’s because we’ve already been using job-creation policies as a poor substitute for a UBI for centuries.
So corporations prevent a rise in minumum wage, corporations then focus on the bottom line and start mass layoffs in order to provide a higher profit margin, corporations run out of bodies to layoff and flatline profits, corporations fund massive immigration crackdown to reduce labor burden even further, corporations develop AI in order to further automation therefore instilling MORE layoffs, corporations then pay for news articles like this one that outline the “dwindling labor population”
Hmmmm…. Yep, I see the need now. We should DEFINITELY prop up these AI companies and support their further development, can’t let that profit growth crawl below +3% per year now can we?
and this is what’s so crazy. AI robotics *is* the answer to “illegal agricultural labor”…. but in what, 3 to 5 years, and that’s being gracious.
a “worker shortage” cannot somehow make cutting edge new tech just immediately be available and be *magically* operational in the field.
