“Over 1,000 Amazon employees have anonymously signed an open letter warning that the company’s allegedly “all-costs-justified, warp-speed approach to AI development” could cause “staggering damage to democracy, to our jobs, and to the earth,” an internal advocacy group announced on Wednesday.
Backers inside Amazon include high-ranking engineers, senior product leaders, marketing managers, and warehouse staff spanning many divisions of the company. A senior engineering manager with over 20 years at Amazon says they signed because they believe a manufactured “race” to build the best AI has empowered executives to trample workers and the environment.”

Nooo, companies would never put profit in front of their workers, their costumers, the quality, the legalities, and their morals. Never ever!

Literally the *only* problem that AI can solve and justify the trillion plus invested in the tech is the full replacement of large sections of the workforce. No other outcome of AI will even come close to having an ROI that will justify the cost.
There are basically three outcomes:
1) it actually works, companies cut staff dramatically through layoffs and much lower hiring rates.
2) it kind of works, so some jobs like package pickers get replaced while some replaced with half assed systems.
3) it barely works to replace people and customers reject the switchover wholesale.
The scary this is, both options 1 and 3 mean the economy will go into a massive recession or collapse completely, because somehow CEOs haven’t figured out that no paychecks mean no purchases of their products.

I work for Amazon and like all I can say is when I go into their warehouse to pick up packages. It’s the most dystopian thing that I can think of and it’s already set up for robots. The future is now and they’re just waiting for something to pull the trigger and I don’t know what that is. I mean all these gig workers like myself included, but as we drive around with our little phones on, are we not mapping out the roads routes for the robots as we take pictures and they record and they see where we walk and everything all the data that we’re collecting for them. You know corporations as I keep ranting here. Corporations have cut every cost they can throughout my whole lifetime and they’ve probably been doing this forever right? You know they cut costs here there and everywhere. I mean why do you think that when you go to like these big box stores most of them look like a bomb went off because they don’t have enough people to do all the required work because The last cost that they can cut is labor.
Imagine the savings! They already do.
I mean why are the super rich building bunkers? It ain’t for some nuclear apocalypse. Okay cuz if you know f****** photosynthesis stops and all this s*** from a nuclear war and like everything dies being in a bunker is just going to prolong your suffering so it ain’t for that guys.
