      I would be more surprised if they did not.

      Not like nearly every nation on the planet is not aiming for this sort of thing.

      At least the spies we catch won’t be worked to death in forced labour camps.

      Spy agency responsible for cultivating operatives in foreign countries cultivates operatives in a foreign country.

      So on one hand it is the job of the M16 to do this, and on the other hand it is the job of the Chinese to complain about it and try to stop it.

      So everything is fine and working as expected.

      Just like it is the job of the Chinese intelligence agencies to spy on us and our job to complain about it and try to stop it.

      We all pretend to be outraged, but the world just keeps turning.

      That’s how spies work isn’t it? Didn’t a bunch of people just get rumbled over here for being Chinese spies and they were government employees?

      Yes, that is how spying works. I’d get China complaining if we were doing something uniquely unethical with the way we were spying but this is how things work.
