Ukraine Basketball Team Triumphs Over Denmark in 2027 World Cup Qualifiers

As reported by the the UAF press service

After the victory over Denmark with a score of 88:71, the head coach of the Ukrainian men’s national basketball team, Ainars Bagatskis, and forward Oleksandr Lipovyi summarized the first window of the 2027 World Cup qualification.

This was reported by the UAF press service, as cited by Ukrinform.

It’s always nice to win two games during a qualification window. We are grateful for the support from the military and all the fans who came to support us. In the first half against the Danes we missed a lot of free throws, so there were some difficulties. After the break we went on a fast break and defended better, which brought the result. It’s still early to talk about prospects, since it’s only the start of the qualification. In February we will have the most important, very challenging games with Spain. Then comes the second stage. Early to talk, but the start for us is very good.

I have already said before that Oleksandr Kovlyar is 100% ready for the role of leader. Not many players in Europe become better for national teams in three consecutive games. In the minutes allocated, he uses his talent on offense, but at the same time he works on defense. Kovlyar is a top-level player in European basketball, only the sky is the limit for his development

Looking ahead, the national team faces a series of important games: in February against Spain and the next stage of the qualification.

The first round of the European qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup will run until July 5, 2026 (two games in each of the three scheduled international “windows”). The top three teams from the four in the group will advance to the next round.

The Ukrainian national team continues its qualifying path with a positive dynamic and a drive for new victories in future encounters.
