  1. Couldn’t help but flash back for a moment to those 1940’s & ’50s pulp SciFi novels about secret German moonbases.

This is much better I think.

  2. Fun fact: Alex Vogel, the character in the Martian, was based on Alexander Gerst. (Pictured in the thumbnail)

The article says that this is for Artemis IV. Does this imply that Artemis III (the first lunar landing) will be crewed exclusively by Americans? I imagine they won’t have a Canadian on Artemis III after having Hansen on Artemis II, and other international agencies like JAXA seem unlikely to be represented.

(In all seriousness, I’m happy for the fella)

Interesting political factor here is, as we start filling up Artemis manifests with foreign astronauts, the first Chinese landing will become less and less significant if they slip beyond more and more Artemis missions with non-Americans walking on the Moon. If I was an anti-CCP political hawk, as many Republicans claim to be, I’d want to get foreign citizens on every Artemis mission and pump as many missions out in the next 4-6 years as possible. “America didn’t just beat China to the Moon, so did its allies.”

The Germans and Japanese already have a seat, and the Canadians and Emiratis will likely get one too. Probably the Italians after that. The CCP-haters in the President’s circle would be pushing this if they smart

Wait…. I seem to remember a movie about Germans on the moon. It did not go well. LoL

    (Just kidding, guys.)

How many Germans does it take to get to the moon?

    Just one

They are remarkably efficient and not very funny
