An Israeli man says he was attacked last night in Nepal’s capital after he recorded a voice message in Hebrew.
Almog Armoza, 25, tells Ynet that a group of locals assaulted him in an alley near his hostel in Kathmandu, hitting him on the head with a metal object and causing him to bleed profusely.
The attack (graphic content) occurred in an alley used frequently by tourists, he says.
“I was recording a message to a friend in Hebrew, which they heard, and when I was done I got a huge blow to the head from a metal rod. They came at me from behind,” he says, adding that he turned around and saw three to five people.
They continued to try to hit him while one grabbed him by the coat. Armoza says he managed to kick the latter person, break free and run toward his hostel, where the assailants stopped pursuing him due to the security there and fled.
After losing “maybe a liter of blood,” he called the police and was taken to a hospital, when he was stitched up and underwent an MRI.
Armoza says he believes the motive for the attack was his nationality, since the assailants didn’t attempt to rob him even though his phone was in his hand.
He says is confident that they had tried to kill him.
“They didn’t look for a wallet, only to deal murderous blows to the head. Had I not escaped, there’s a good chance I wouldn’t be alive today. I escaped by a miracle. Had the first blow knocked me out, it could have ended differently,” he says.
Due to the attack, Armoza missed his return flight to Israel.
