Banks in Croatia recorded a combined profit of €1.13 billion in the first nine months of 2025, marking a 5.9% decline compared with the same period last year, according to new data released by the Croatian National Bank (HNB). Out of all credit institutions, 19 banks operated in the black, while J&T Banka was the only institution to post a loss, amounting to €728,000.

Zagrebačka banka remained the country’s most profitable financial institution, earning €360.7 million, although this result is 5.2% lower than a year earlier. Privredna banka Zagreb (PBZ) followed with a profit of €281.9 million, while Erste & Steiermärkische Bank claimed third place, reporting €186.8 million, the same level as in 2024.

Among other major banks, OTP Banka generated €96.9 million, Raiffeisenbank Austria posted €72.9 million, and Hrvatska poštanska banka (HPB) earned €51.4 million. HPB’s figure represents a 16.7% decrease, or €10.3 million less than in the same period last year.

HNB’s preliminary unaudited data highlight a cooling trend in the sector after several years of record profits, although Croatia’s largest banks continue to report strong operating results.
