Slovenia secured a road victory against Sweden, winning 94-83 in the second round of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
In the first round of these qualifiers, both teams suffered defeats. Sweden was convincingly beaten on the road by the Czech Republic, 97-80, while Slovenia lost at home to Estonia, 94-93.
Slovenia opened the game in fantastic fashion. They were very sharp on offense, building a significant lead of 31-16 after the first 10 minutes. However, it was clear that Sweden would not give up easily, and by halftime they had reduced the visitors’ advantage to a manageable 49-42.

Sweden continued to play very well, and by the middle of the third quarter, they had tied the game at 55-55. However, Slovenia responded strongly, stopped that run, and quickly regained a double-digit lead at 69-59, which they maintained without major problems until the end of the game.
Slovenia was led to victory by Ziga Samar, who scored 16 points and added five assists, while Gregor Glas contributed 15 points. Leon Stergar and Miha Cerkvenik each added 13 points, and Alen Omic also reached double figures with 11 points.
For Sweden, Ludde Hakanson shone with 34 points, but it was far from enough. Pierre Hampton had a solid performance with 16 points, while Olle Lundqvist added 14.
In the second game of this group, the Czech Republic recorded an away win against Estonia, 97-72, with Tomas Satoransky delivering an outstanding performance of 18 points and 16 assists.
Their next games in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers will take place in February, when Sweden will host Estonia, and France will host Czech Republic.
