Fewer than 100 pieces of communication on the issue, many from the same people, but because they can threaten legal action backed by a billionaire with a complex they can bully a women’s organisation into doing something that organisation doesn’t want to do.
Absolutely none of this is about advancing the rights of women, it’s all about harming trans people.

>the organisation had taken the decision with the “utmost regret and sadness”, adding it had “no choice” but to exclude trans women from its membership.
You do have a choice, you could chose to relinquish your status as a single sex organisation.

They do have a choice. Stand up and be counted.
It’s possible you will get sued by a JK Rowling backed complainant but unless organisations start taking a stand, we as a society are kowtowing to the loonie fringe that JK and TERFs represent.
And organisations don’t really come more sympathetic than the WI.
Can you imagine the imagery it would bring up if the TERFs sue little old grannies who only want to do baking, charity work, and needlepoint?
They have the best chance of all to withstand this.

Note that the women running this had no issues with trans people and there doesn’t appear to be a single incident where there was an issue either
It’s under threat from lawsuits by Billionaire hate mongers which want trans people outside of society which this happened

It’s so annoying that the anti-trans side seems to have deep enough pockets to use money to force their views.

To stop trans women’s unfair advantage at baking cakes and knitting sweaters?

How will they know if someone is trans.
If a trans woman turns up and applies to join how will they know ?

Oh ffs! What’s the great trans threat to crafting , jam-making and guest lectures? This is getting out of hand now

Will the TERF brigade be going after places like Andy’s Man Club too?

Thank god Rowling and the rest of the nutters stopped women from the possibility of seeing supposed “men”, bake cakes.
What is it with this country constantly rolling over to make the lives of the most marginalized worse?

I should preface by saying I have no issue with people of any gender or no gender affiliation. All people have equal worth and value in society and should be shown equal acceptance.
Having said that ,and realizing this is an emotive topic, surely the issue here is gender-based organizations. The WI is a women-only institution.
If you are a man you cannot join as a member of the WI, although you can attend some events and be a speaker.
Some of the comments here about the WI being nothing more than helpless old grannies knitting say a lot about the perceived role of women in society, which is sad to see.
Having any organization or service that is sex-based is bound to be problematic in a society embracing the idea that gender is different to and trumps your biological sex.
Perhaps it is time to do away with sex-based devisions. If it was simply The Institute and anyone could join then there would be no issue with trans members. If it was simple a bathroom and not women’s or men’s then again the question of trans would disappear. And in most instances, I think that society should shun sex-based discrimination in all its forms.
But this hits issues where there are meaningful differences between men and women, for example in sport where men will often have an advantage over women. Perhaps we could start some kind of Chromosome test and have XX, XY and XXY sports teams instead of men’s and women’s teams, but that seems invasive and I can see plenty of people complaining about that approach.
The Women’s Institute could solve this issue instantly by simply taking the word “Women’s” out of their name and opening up membership to all. The Girl Guides could do the same.

Gays persecution is deeply ingrained in our society. Christo-Fascists to blame.

I know a trans woman and she’s a lovely person. There is no need for this type of bigotry.
