Every so often, a message like the one below hits our newsroom email.

Hello,

I’m a radio enthusiast living in Trondheim, Norway, and on the 3rd of December 2025 I listened to CJYM 1330 AM from 02.12 a.m. your time.

So my hobby is to listen to remote radio stations – this is called DX-ing – during the winter period it’s possible to hear quite a few stations transmitting from North America, due to good atmospheric conditions. I use a SDR receiver connected to a directional beverage antenna.

I love the music you played…What’s so fascinating is one doesn’t know to hear next, and it surely gives a boost identifying a new station.

Besides from radio I’m interested in e.g. cross-country skiing and music…

Vang’s story showcases how AM radio can be heard across the world, and when we followed up on another one of these emails a few years back, a gentleman from England was happy to show us the work that goes into the hobby of DX.

Perhaps any foreign listeners heard this week’s segment on Rob Carnie in the Morning where I joined to share more about a local by-election:

We also chatted about some holiday fun in Elrose, before Rob noticed a fun story out of Kindersley on our front page.

Before wrapping with a look at the Kindersley Jr. Klippers upcoming Teddy Bear Toss night on Friday!
