Bulgarian President Rumen Radev says he supports North Macedonia’s EU membership, but not at the expense of Bulgarians’ rights, reports Telegraph Macedonia.
“The inclusion of Bulgarians in the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia will significantly accelerate the country’s path towards the European Union, and I hope that our southwestern neighbor will do this as soon as possible in order to open the doors to negotiations for full membership,” Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said at a meeting with representatives of Bulgarian community organizations in Macedonia from Bitola, Ohrid, Skopje, Prilep, Kavadarci and Kocani, the press service of the Bulgarian head of state reported.
Radev said that it is the duty of every democratic state to effectively protect the rights of all its citizens and guarantee their right to self-determination.
“We all hope that Macedonia’s integration will happen as soon as possible, but this cannot be done at the expense of the rights of the Bulgarian community in the country,” the Bulgarian president stressed.
In this regard, Radev expressed hope that the RMV authorities will implement the 2022 European compromise as soon as possible and include Bulgarians in their constitution. /Telegraph/
