How can this be possible when the conservatives are making the promises that everyone wanted such as bringing back national service and oppressing trans people. /s

    2. Labour will romp home. I am not a huge fan of big majorities as it is a double edge sword.

I actually believe the Tories could suddenly come up with really good ideas and still take a beating. As time for a change is really powerful and even dedicated Tory voters can see the last 14 years and think. Yep.

Now anyone, and we are all clued in on this sub who is expecting Labour to ride in on a white horse and wave some magic potion is going to be sorely disappointed.

There is going to be lots of turmoil and lots of strikes (calling it now) as a lot of unions are going to be at their door on day 1.

Yougov MMRP were the only people to call the 2017 hung parliament. Obviously it doesn’t guarantee success each time, but they’re worth paying attention to.

Interesting that this has the conservatives on 41% in Sunak’s own constituency which is normally 50-60% for them. Tactical voting could actually unseat him if this is anywhere near correct. As someone who lives in the seat I think it’s unlikely but it would seem at least possible.

The yougov website, to look at how this estimates each constituency.

They have north west Cambs as a tossup with a slight leaning to labour. There’s a big local issue that means you can rack that up as red too

This, coming after the other mega poll which this backs up simply means the last rights (and a stake) can be administered.

I should be overjoyed about this, as it will hopefully fast-track the demise of the Conservative Party, but nothing Starmer has yet said or done has filled me with much optimism.

    8. So conventional wisdom is that polls start to narrow once an election is called; I know we’re only a couple of weeks in, but there would normally be signs of that by now, surely?

    9. This can’t go on forever, this two party system, red Vs blue. It hasn’t worked for the people for a long time, whoever is the lesser of two evils, the dynamic will never change. It will just be a revolving door until the end of time, only serving the Eatonian clique.

A vote for labour might be less disastrous, but we all know, deep down in our hearts, that nothing is going to improve fundamentally. A few scraps here n there, but we will just be getting a government who will have excuses until the next GE, as to why nothing is improving or why they aren’t making an effort.

I don’t know what the answer is, I’m not clever enough to invent a new paradigm or know which party has our best interests at heart. All I know is, we deserve better than the system we already have, that is never striving to progress.

I can’t wait for the results on July 5th. It’ll be better than any comedy club!

    11. The Tories have to be kicked out. It will however be interesting to see how people react when nothing really changes.
NHS spending is out of control it can’t carry on being the black hole it is.

Trouble is no party can afford to tell the truth.

    12. Why can’t we set up a Reddit party. Everything is agreed on Reddit polls and modded on Reddit and we can rule the UK. I propose we set up a REDDIT PARTY

    13. Which will be fantastic however I’d still like a detailed manifesto that doesn’t comprise entirely of ‘We all know the Tories are shit so voting for us can’t be any worse’

I’m not sure this is good news. I genuinely don’t think things are going to get better with Starmer because the underlying issues won’t be resolved, namely wealth inequality, tax avoidance and privatisation of public services such as the NHS.

He will tinker around the edges but things will carry on getting worse and then in 5 or 10 years some far right party will win the election under the guise of ‘the left’ not achieving anything.

      It’s so depressingly predictable.

    15. BalianofReddit on

Doubtful, especially since the tories and reform are probably going to make another election pact. Labour might still win but this shit isn’t going to happen

    16. Cynical_Classicist on

How have the Tories so flipped things around in the course of a single Parliament?

    17. RoyaleWCheese_OK on

Changing the party in charge isn’t going to fix the shitty civil service beneath. It’s not going to fix the bloated, underperforming money sponge that’s the NHS. Its not going to fix years of manufacturing decline nor decades of crap energy policy that if managed correctly would have created a world-class sovereign fund. Its not going to fix the underfunded military nor the ruined relationships with other countries. Basically it doesn’t matter whos in charge, the UK is fucked.

Anyone remember the end of the 2019 GE where political pundits were saying Labour would take a decade to come back from how big of a loss they took? Genuinely mad to think about how wild the last five years have been for it to swing so much in the other direction and then some. We truly do live in unprecedented times if this happens.
