A survey conducted during the Regional Job Fair, held from 14 to 21 October, shows that salaries remain the main factor when choosing a job, but also that employees in Serbia place significant value on the quality of interpersonal relations within their team. The survey included 3,273 respondents from Serbia, providing a reliable picture of their expectations and priorities.
Data from the Infostud survey shows that 66 percent of employees in Serbia consider earnings to be crucial when making a job-related decision. Following salary, the second most important factor is interpersonal relations and good communication within the team, while flexibility and work–life balance, as well as opportunities for learning and advancement, are important to one third of respondents.
When it comes to expected earnings, the average “decent” salary that workers consider sufficient for a stable life ranges between 730 and 1,330 euros net, a range that applies to almost two-thirds of respondents.
Based on this survey, the average expected salary in Serbia is around 1,165 euros, which enables employees to plan long-term and maintain stability. It places Serbia above Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia, but below Croatia, where average expectations reach around 1,650 euros.
The survey also reveals a high level of worker mobility: in the previous year, 37 percent of employees changed jobs, while 59 percent plan to change jobs in the next 12 months. This signals to employers that they need to remain competitive, both in terms of salary and in regard to the working environment and opportunities for advancement.
The fear of losing one’s job in Serbia is moderate. Up to 30 percent of workers occasionally feel insecure, while 42 percent do not feel fear at all, and 28 percent do not think about it whatsoever.
