During the official celebration of the 35th anniversary of Eurodesk Malta, the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti emphasised the fundamental value of Eurodesk as a pillar of information, guidance and opportunity for young generations in our country. He stated that Eurodesk, operated through Aġenzija Żgħażagħ and supported by the European Commission and EUPA, has been and remains a central instrument in bringing Europe closer to young people.
While discussing this year’s main theme, Youth Information in the Age of AI, the Parliamentary Secretary noted that young people today face a new reality where information is immediate, vast and sometimes misleading. In this context, Eurodesk’s role as a reliable source of information and direction is more crucial than ever. He explained that the platform provides clarity in an environment filled with digital noise and helps young people make informed and conscious decisions about their future.
Parliamentary Secretary Keith Azzopardi Tanti praised the work carried out over the years and stated: “Eurodesk today is giving a renewed meaning to the word opportunity. It offers a safe and clear space where young people can find credible information about Europe, discover programmes such as Erasmus+, the ESC, DiscoverEU and traineeships, and make choices that change their lives. It is a platform that truly connects Europe with young people and gives them the courage to go beyond their boundaries.”
During his address, the Parliamentary Secretary also highlighted how Eurodesk Malta is clearly fulfilling the first EU Youth Goal: Connecting the EU with Young People, and that this ongoing dialogue between young people and Europe must continue to be strengthened through impartial, trustworthy information services that respond to today’s cultural and technological realities.
He added that the Government remains committed to strengthening access to these opportunities for all generations, particularly for those who may face social, economic or educational challenges or limitations. The aim is for opportunity to be visible, real and inclusive.
The Manager of the Youth Enpowetment Unit of AġenzijaŻgħażagħ, Maria Borg, under whose mandate Eurodesk Malta operates, stated that the programme remains a model of structured information and continuous support for young people. She said: “Eurodesk remains an essential tool to ensure that young people receive the right information at the right moment. For 35 years, this service has opened new horizons, built young people’s confidence and, for many, empowered them to take their first step towards experiences that changed their lives.”
It was also stated during the event that European programmes offer not only educational experiences but can also develop into careers, international partnerships and a strong sense of European belonging. Eurodesk Malta continues to play a vital role in ensuring these opportunities remain accessible and relevant for present and future generations.
Through this celebration, Eurodesk Malta once again confirms its mission: to provide clear guidance, access to European opportunities and continuous support so that young people in Malta remain an integral part of Europe’s story, culture and future.
